Proenza Schouler - Ready-to-Wear - Women's Fall/Winter 2011/2012

Yes I know, I'm 3 months behind... but I finally go time to watch some fashion shows for fall/winter 2011/2012.  Out of the majority of the shows I've seen so far, Proenza Schouler definitely impressed me the most.

The colour, cut, and modern look of these items are simple but chic. The warm tones and innovative patterns make me think of the fall season, and the way they are displayed with the art deco-esque accessories, give a bold and new perspective to where fall fashion is going.

Overall, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez always seem to come up with creative ways in expressing their sense of female fashion and style. From their pattern selections to tailoring, both designers know what women want and always add a refreshing twist to the season.

Harem for Him!!

So just a few weeks ago I ordered 2 pairs of harem pants, and behold they have arrived!

To tell you the truth, I was not confident they would come in. Mainly because I ordered them from a site that does not get great reviews (I only found this out after the fact). However, http://www.dinodirect.com/, actually delievered my pants in less than 2 weeks and with no shipping fees. And I was thrilled with the price I paid ($20  two pairs of harem pants). Mind you, one of the pairs didn't fit me but I was expecting that to happen since they are manufactured in China (no offense but dear lord asian sizes are so small!). Anyway, as it stands I'm in the midst of exchanging the pair that did not fit, but still I'm quite pleased with the quality and the look of these pants.  Tell me what you guys think :)

Chanel - Cruise 2012

To herald the beginning of the Cannes Film Festival, Chanel attracted the crowds with its latest collection. Overlooking the French Riviera, this collection set a regal mood and reflected on the Twenties and Thirties Riviera glamour. In addition to the fashion show, Karl Lagerfeld premiered his short film titled The Tales of a Fairy. Also along the French Riviera, the film touched on various references to Coco Chanel and the period she lived in.

In watching both the fashion show and the film. I had mixed fillings on what exactly Karl Lagerfeld was trying to say. In talking about the fashion show, I felt that it was well executed and I did like some of the pieces that were shown. I especially loved the set up for the runway. It was crisp and refreshing (Karl always has a good eye for display his work). In terms of the fashion show, I preferred the pieces near the end of the show. I felt that they were more reflective of glamour and class. While the ones at the beginning seemed so restrictive and counterintuitive to the overall atmosphere of a cruise. With reflecting on the film, I felt it was too amateur and so art house…I kind of laughed at certain points. Anyway, below are some of the pieces I really liked and I linked both the film and the first part of the fashion show (I couldn't find part 2!). Enjoy!

Charlotte Gainsbourg (heart)

My oh my...what a girl.
I'd have to say she's one of my favourite actresses. Her acting is so versitale and consistent. From being a cute girl next door in "The Science of Sleep" to a possessed psychotic mental patient (Antichrist), she can make you feel a spectrum of feelings. Overall, I feel that she isn't what you call the "typical" female beauty (aka. super-model, hollywood actress yada yada). Quite simply, she possess an androgynous quality that entices me in. Her ability to possess both the girlish and boyish qualities intrigues me and everytime I see here in pictures or on film. I get drawn in Not to mention she has a great sense of style. She can totally rock the rocker chick look but also look elegant and chic quite effortlessly. Anyway, here are some of my favourite pics of her. And don't be afraid to share your thoughts :)

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

In homage of Alexander McQueen, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute has installed a new exhibit displaying 100 pieces from McQueens oeuvre.  Just recently, this exhibit was opened and was celebrated at the 2011 Costume Institute Gala Benefit. This event was organized by Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton and curator in charge Harold Koda (source Vogue.com).

Here are just some pictures of his masterpieces displayed in the exhibit. Everytime I look at them they leave me breathless.
